- Create a model of patient's mouth by pouring plaster into a dental impression and allowing plaster to set
- Read prescriptions or specifications and examine models or impressions to decide the design needed for dental products
- Remove excess metal or porcelain and use polishing machines to polish surfaces of prostheses or frameworks
- Pour materials into molds or over frameworks to form a dental prosthesis or apparatus
- Fabricate, alter, or repair dental devices like dentures, crowns, bridges, inlays, or appliances for straightening teeth
- Melt metals or mix plaster, porcelain, or acrylic pastes
- Evaluate how well the model works by placing it on equipment that imitates the bite and movement of patient's jaw
- Use articulators and micrometers to test appliances to make sure they conform to specifications and that occlusion is accurate
